I have compiled this information using resources mentioned within the text, some common sense, my experience and expertise in infectious diseases and infection prevention, and my years of being a Share-A-Pet volunteer in long term care centers. I sincerely hope you can share this text with people all over the world. Our elderly are one of our greatest treasures and we have to do all that we can to protect them.
For everyone, regardless of whether you live and work inside or outside long term care centers, remember to:
- follow proper cough and sneeze etiquette
- wash your hands well, especially
- before you eat or
- touch your face
- and after you have
- used the toilet,
- changed the diaper on someone,
- played with your pet,
- handled money, anything mailed to you, food delivery, food pick up or trash
- before you eat or
- don’t touch your face until after you have washed your hands well
- disinfect all areas and surfaces that come in contact with many people; and
- keep your social distance from people who are not “staying at home” or “sheltering in place’ with you – this is a distance of at least 6 feet (1.83 meters).
